But, now, the RJD has had to close down its facilities because of its large capacity.
Now, a team of researchers from MIT has built a solar power generator using the modular solar system.
It will use the existing solar grid to power a large solar panel.
MIT Technology Review reports that the system, dubbed the RJAB solar farm, will be the first of its kind.
RJD’s modular solar panels are made from a combination of metal-cased glass and ceramic tiles.
They were assembled by MIT scientists and will power up the panels, and the system is made of panels and modules that were assembled in China.
MIT Tech Review reports the panels are about the size of a large laptop and cost $500,000.
The panels will be installed on the roof of a hotel in New York.
It is a significant expansion of the RJA Solar farm, which was first tested in the US last year.
MIT TechnoReview says the solar farm will generate about 300 megawatts (MW) of power.
MIT said in a statement that the RJC solar farm is a demonstration system and that other projects in the works could eventually add solar power capacity to existing buildings.
The university said it hopes to produce up to 200MW of power using the RJB solar farm.
